Skills that Make a Difference
The Granja, or ranch, is an extension of Hogar de Niños and was purchased in 1994.
Because little boys grow into young men, Carmen knew she would need a place for
them to expend energy, build their strength, and develop life skills. When the small
boys of Hogar de Niños begin to reach adolescence, they move to the Granja. It is
here on the 40-acre farm that Christian leadership and fresh air combine to help
these young men mature into responsible adults. Skills such as farming, welding,
woodworking, and shop class are taught regularly. They also learn animal husbandry
by caring for cows, horses, chickens, and even how to raise fish in the farm pond.
But their favorite pastime is easily their enthusiastic and competitive matches
played on their soccer field.
These practical skills prepare these young men for life after Hogar de Niños, providing
hope of a future built both on self reliance and faith.
Psalm 25:4-5
Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach
me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.
